MOSCOW. Aug 19 (Interfax-AVN) - Two Chinese satellites have performed an approaching maneuver to practice the mutual inspection and examination of foreign satellites, prominent space analyst Igor Lisov told Interfax-AVN on Thursday.
"The Chinese satellite Shi Jian-12, after a series of maneuvers, approached another Chinese satellite, Shi Jiang-6-03A, presumably to practice approach techniques in orbit under the national human flights program, or to inspect Chinese and foreign satellites," he said.
"The second theory sounds more realistic. There is no official information about the experiment in China. Meanwhile, China has no need to cover it if it is connected with the human flights program. "Under the human flights program, the spaceship Shenzhou 8 is to dock with the orbital laboratory Tiangong 1 in a pilot-less mode," Lisov said. |
