“一脚踏进昆明，心都醉了。” 来过昆明的人，相信都会有散文家杨朔“醉倒在阳光下”的感受。
冬天，北国还是冰天雪地，昆明却阳光明媚，花潮涌动；夏季，南方酷暑难当，昆明人尽情享受凉爽宜人的气候，犹如生活在一个巨大的天然空调棚里。
“三分春之妙，两分在昆明。”昆明是一座以鲜花和阳光闻名的高原湖滨生态城市。中国“最具幸福感城市”评选组委会给昆明的颁奖词是：因为经度与纬度的奇妙交织，这里的生命之花绽放得格外灿烂；因为自然的馈赠与人民的创造，这里的每一张笑脸都在和煦晴空下演绎春天的故事。
“Taking the first step in Kunming, my heart was drunk with warmth.” For those who have been here, they invariably agree the description by the famous Chinese essayist Yang Shuo capsulate the feeling of “melt in sunshine” vividly.
In winter when north China is shrouded in ice and snow, Kunming is bathed in bright sunshine, whispering in seas of flowers; in summer when south China is sweating in scorching heat, Kunming is murmuring in cool breeze. Living in Kunming is like living in a huge room ideally and naturally air-conditioned.
“Kunming is blessed with the best part of spring season.” This city situated on plateau in the arms of Dianchi Lake, is famous for its exposure to sunshine and luxury of flowers. While awarding the title of “the Most Happy City in China” to Kunming, the organizing committee remarked that “at the wonderful intersection of longitude and latitude, the flower of life is blossoming with exceptional luster; and because of the generosity of the nature and the creativeness of the people, every smiling face is telling a vivid story of spring under the bright sky.”

昆明是云南的省会，是全省的政治、经济、文化、社会事业发展中心和交通、通信枢纽。全市辖6区1市7县，133个乡镇（街道办事处）。总面积2.1万平方公里，总人口726万，其中常住人口643.2万。
昆明地处云贵高原，市中心海拔1895米，三面环山，南濒滇池，湖光山色交相辉映，是镶嵌在祖国西南边陲的一颗靓丽明珠。
As the Capital of Yunnan Province, Kunming is the provincial political, economic, social and cultural center as well as the transportation and communications hub. Under its jurisdiction are 6 districts, 1 city, 7 counties and 133 prefectures and towns (neighborhood offices). It covers 21 thousand square kilometers and has a total population of 7.26 million, of which resident population is 6.43 million.
Situated in the middle of Yunnan-Guizhou Plateau, Kunming is located at an altitude of 1,895 meters above sea level. Surrounded on three sides by mountains, edged in on the south by Dianchi Lake and thereby framed in a backdrop of mountain and lake views, the city is considered a sparkling piece of jewel set on the southwestern border of China.

昆明是首批国家历史文化名城，目前有各类文物保护单位432项，其中全国重点文物保护单位16项，省级重点文物保护单位59项。
Kunming is one of the first to be listed as a national famous historical and cultural city. It has 432 cultural relics sites, of which 16 are national level key sites and 59 are provincial level key sites.


翠湖公园 Green Lake Park

昆明生态环境良好，森林覆盖率为45.1%。2011年主城区空气质量优良率100%，优级天数达到117天，是我国空气质量最好的内陆省会城市。
昆明属低纬度高原山地季风气候，年均降水量1075毫米，年均日照2200小时，无霜期240天以上。昆明年平均气温15℃左右，冬无严寒、夏无酷暑，是享誉世界的春城和避寒避暑之都，被称为“一座阳光总在屋子里的城市”。
Kunming has very good ecologic environment with forest coverage rate reaching 45.1%. In 2011, the rate of good air quality in city proper was 100%, with 117 days achieving excellent grade. It is the best city for air quality among all the inland provincial capitals in China.
Having a low latitude monsoon climate of mountain-plateau region, the average annual precipitation here is 1,075 millimeters, average annual exposure to sunshine is 2,200 hours and frost-free period is generally over 240 days. The average temperature throughout the year is around 15℃.Mild in winter and cool in summer, Kunming, known as “the city where the Sun shines indoors”, enjoys a global reputation of being the city of eternal spring and the vacation capital for escaping cold and heat.

昆明是中国首批优秀旅游城市之一，有80多个旅游景点，其中有国家A级景区16个，涵盖了自然风光、名胜古迹、康体休闲、乡村旅游等。
Kunming is also one of the first in China to be recognized as “the best tourist destinations”. It has over 80 tourism attractions, of which 16 are ranked as National A Level Sites, covering sites for natural, historical and cultural sight-seeing, recreation, entertainment, leisure and countryside tours.


生机勃勃的现代新昆明 Dynamic new Kunming
昆明综合经济实力居中国西部省会城市前三名。2011年，昆明实现地区生产总值2509.58亿元，实现地方财政总收入700.9亿元，全社会固定资产投资完成2701.11亿元，实现社会消费品零售总额1271.73亿元。
The overall economic strength of Kunming is ranked the top three among the provincial capitals in west China. In 2011, its GDP was RMB250.958 billion; local fiscal revenue was RMB70.09 billion; investment in fixed assets reached RMB270.111 billion; total retail sales of consumer goods were RMB127.173 billion.

昆明区位优越，交通便利，是中国面向东南亚、南亚的前沿和重要门户，是滇中城市经济圈的中心，具有“东连黔桂通沿海，北经川渝进中原，南下越老达泰柬，西接缅甸连印巴”的独特区位。
昆明作为面向东南亚、南亚地区的区域性国际城市，公路、铁路、民航等交通体系日益完善。以昆明为中心的高速公路辐射全省。8条国内铁路交汇，4条国际铁路出境，构筑起昆明“八出省、四出境”的铁路大通道。
昆明处在亚洲5小时航空圈的中心。目前，开通了国际、国内航线达280条。设计旅客年吞吐量6500万人次的昆明长水国际机场即将竣工投用。
Located at a strategic position with easy access to transportation facilities, Kunming is the center of Mid Yunnan economic circle, and an important gateway to connect China with Southeast Asia and South Asia. It has the advantage of extensive outreach: to the east, it is connected to the coastal areas through Guizhou and Guangxi provinces; to the north, it is connected to mid China through Chongqing municipality and Sichuan province; to the south, it reaches out to Vietnam, the Laos, Thailand and Cambodia; to the west, it leads to Myanmar, India and Pakistan.
As a regional international city interfacing Southeast Asia and South Asia regions, Kunming is investing a lot to improve its transportation systems covering roads, railroads and aviation services. A highway network centering upon Kunming radiates to the whole of Yunnan province. A railroad network is being completed with eight domestic railroads intersect in Kunming and four international railways lead from Kunming across borders.
Kunming is at the center of a “five-hour-flight-circle”, with easy flight access to the rest of major Asian cities. At present, it has 280 international and domestic lines. The new airport in Kunming, Changshui International Airport, designed with an annual capacity of 65 million passengers, will soon start operation.

昆明背靠中原，面向东南亚、南亚，民族文化绚烂多姿，其中以佛教文化最具代表性。
坐落在昆明西北郊玉案山上的筇竹寺，始建於元代，为中原佛教禅宗传入云南的第一座寺庙。筇竹寺之所以出名，是由於寺内保存着被认为是五彩泥塑艺术珍品的五百罗汉彩塑。五百罗汉的塑像采用了浪漫主义与现实主义相结合的手法，在空间布局、人物造型等方面都有大胆创新，雕塑富於变化、性格迥异、形象逼真，被誉为“东方雕塑宝库中的明珠”。
2001年筇竹寺被国务院公布为全国重点文物保护单位。
Connected to mid China on one side and faced to Southeast Asia and South Asia on the other side, Kunming has a rich diversity of ethnic cultures, of which the most representative one is Buddhism culture.
Qiongzhu Temple is located in Yu’an Mountain in the northwestern suburb of Kunming. Originally constructed in Yuan Dynasty, it was the first temple dedicated to Zen sect of Buddhism introduced from mid China to Yunnan. The temple is most renowned for the painted clay sculptures of the 500 Buddhist arhats that are incredible works of art. Combining romanticism with realism, the sculptured figures are characterized by unique facial expressions and body gestures, a radical break from the usual fixed style of Buddhist sculptures. Through the use of exaggeration, the artist created lively images of life-like figures in totally fantastical positions. These arhats are known as the “Pearls of sculpture art in the oriental treasure house”.
In 2001, Qiongzhu Temple was listed by the State Council as a National Level Key Relics Site under state protection.

昆明是一个多民族聚居的城市，彝、回、白、苗、壮、傣、哈尼等是世居少数民族。长期以来，各民族和睦相处，既互相交融又保持着各自的文化传统、文化艺术。
云南民族村位于滇池之滨，是展示云南少数民族社会生活和文化风情的窗口，融合了云南各民族民居、服饰、节庆、歌舞为一体，被誉为“云南民族文化大观园”。
Kunming is a melting pot of ethnic groups. Yi, Hui, Bai, Miao, Zhuang, Dai and Hani peoples are aboriginal ethic groups. For a long time, these ethnic groups have lived in harmony. They reach out for each other while maintaining their own cultures, traditions and arts.
Yunnan Nationalities Village sits on the bank of Dianchi Lake. Known as the “grand view park of ethnic cultures in Yunnan”, it is a window showcasing the social lives and customs of local ethnic peoples by providing a caricatured glimpse into their architecture, costumes, festivals and folk songs and dances.
