When we were the Sick Man of Asia, We were called The Yellow Peril.

When we are billed to be the next Superpower, we are called The Threat.3 ~( D. e8 Z9 ?% C8 ^" o" M

When we closed our doors, you smuggled drugs to open markets.$ Y0 Y" G" u; \& n; X" c* y
" ]9 p4 s& s6 J) g5 `& [" U6 L7 y When we embrace Free Trade, You blame us for taking away your jobs.5 _5 U4 c0 H; `: e+ j' f

When we were falling apart, You marched in your troops and wanted your: F6 d9 ]4 \# f+ [: i+ z
fair share.

When tried Communism, you hated us for being Communist.% T% H6 f" K( n2 V
& A6 ^' {$ f* b When we embrace Capitalism, you hate us for being Capitalist.

When we have a billion people, you said we were destroying the planet.

; e* M( Z0 n: C: ^& X: y( Q When we tried limiting our numbers, you said we abused human rights.( O: N" g, W( d: i* f' c" r

When we were poor, you thought we were dogs.% t! ]2 n, K. u, U: m, S2 X8 S: T5 P- _
! p3 Z+ ]% k- \/ g When we loan you cash, you blame us for your national debts.

; ^) a/ {' X" a When we build our industries, you call us Polluters.# t9 D" f& I% c& h9 e# _& {9 p' d* n
% m& ^& m/ K; X When we sell you goods, you blame us for global warming.2 c- L2 d E! K3 H G' D3 M
0 a! z7 q; h- q When we buy oil, you call it exploitation and genocide.

When you go to war for oil, you call it liberation.6 I7 s2 w4 u0 R4 o( |; q5 X
3 `$ A" r; e9 Z N2 a# m When we were lost in chaos and rampage, you demanded rules of law.

6 ~2 Q7 Y/ J/ ~ When we uphold law and order against violence, you call it violating human& L/ _" u1 N4 M' I0 g
rights.

, D0 K" o. F1 ]. H D When we were silent, you said you wanted us to have free speech.8 B4 |; A8 V5 V: k$ f$ [* B

When we are silent no more, you say we are brainwashed-xenophobics.- ]# p! n1 L$ n- g
' [, |" C8 z; P1 h% t9 M Why do you hate us so much, we asked.

8 K# X2 M$ C1 B+ [, K No, you answered, we don't hate you.; m5 Q- B. t' A ?9 ]* x
- h$ B. G" @: e, l! \- M5 m7 h1 v We don't hate you either,* }7 D: \4 z+ R9 b

But, do you understand us?/ s6 y0 x8 M9 h: X4 j, c

Of course we do, you said,

What do you really want from us?9 N$ _5 R2 R3 A$ M

Think hard first, then answer...

Because you only get so many chances.
