Org. Setting and Reporting
The United Nations Environment Programme (UN Environment) is the leading global environmental authority that sets the global environmental agenda, promotes the coherent implementation of the environmental dimension of sustainable development within the United Nations system and serves as an authoritative advocate for the global environment. The Convention on the Conservation of Migratory Species of Wild Animals (CMS) aims to conserve terrestrial, aquatic and avian migratory species throughout their range. CMS is an intergovernmental treaty, concluded under the aegis of the UN Environment, concerned with the conservation of wildlife and habitats on a global scale. The CMS Secretariat maintains close institutional and programmatic linkages with its instruments, even with those Agreements which are legally independent. CMS and its Instruments are often collectively referred to as the “CMS Family”. At present, there are 124 countries including the EU, which have become a Contracting Party of the Convention. The CMS Secretariat and its Agreements (AEWA, ASCOBANS and EUROBATS) are located at the United Nations Premises in Bonn, Germany.

This internship is located within the Joint Communications, Information Management and Outreach Team of the UNEP/CMS and the UNEP/AEWA Secretariats. The unit was established in January 2014 as a pilot to demonstrate joint services in the area of communications and information management between the CMS and AEWA Secretariats.

This internship is for a minimum period of three months with a possibility of extension up to a maximum of six months.
The Internship is UNPAID and full-time.
Daily responsibilities will depend on the individual’s background and the major tasks assigned to the intern as well as the internship period. The intern will assist in the development and daily management of a wide spectrum of communication and information management related products and activities for both CMS and AEWA.
Responsibilities
Under the direct supervision of the Information Officer and Coordinator of the Joint CMS & AEWA Communications, Information Management and Outreach Unit, the intern will:

•Assist in implementing the World Migratory Bird Day (WMBD) Campaign: Support the Unit with the organization of the annual campaign (WMBD www.worldmigratorybirdday.org ) This will include assisting in the drafting of articles, maintaining the website, daily correspondence with event organizers, logistics, social media, research, content creation, and other tasks;
•Assist in the preparation of the 7th Meeting of the Parties to AEWA (October – December 2018);
•Assist in the production of content for use on the CMS, AEWA and other websites, through research and drafting of articles, translations and development of new multi-media content;
•Assist in the day-to-day management of the various CMS and AEWA social media channels (Twitter, Facebook, YouTube, Instagram) in particular in the context of communication campaigns such as WMBD and others being carried out by the Unit;
•Support Press / Media related work of the Joint Communications Unit by assisting in maintaining a targeted list of journalists, including contact details, main interests (based on research of past published articles);
•Support the Unit in the daily maintenance of a number of websites and in the development of new web and multi-media products;
•Assist in the production of electronic newsletters (E-Newsletter Bulletin) for CMS, AEWA and WMBD in English, French and Spanish;
•Support the development of audio-visual products (Video Clips, Animations, Graphics, Podcasts) for publication on websites and in social media.

-Meets timeline for delivery of products or services to client
Education
Applicants must at the time of application meet one of the following requirements:
a. Be enrolled in a graduate school programme (second university degree or equivalent, or higher);
b. Be enrolled in the final academic year of a first university degree program (minimum Bachelor's level or equivalent);
c. Have graduated with a university degree and, if selected, must commence the internship within a one-year period of graduation.

Be computer literate in standard software applications.

Have demonstrated keen interest in the work of the United Nations and have a personal commitment to the ideals of the Charter;

Have a demonstrated ability to successfully interact with individuals of different cultural backgrounds and beliefs, which include willingness to try and understand and be tolerant of differing opinions and views.

A degree programme in communications, media studies, international relations or journalism and other social sciences, including sociology, political science, environmental studies, geography, as well as in the areas of information and knowledge management, or related field.
Work Experience
Applicants are not required to have professional work experience for participation in the programme
Languages
Excellent writing and communication skills in English are required. Additional knowledge of French, Spanish, Chinese, Russian or Arabic is an asset

United Nations Considerations
