The EU SME Centre is now looking for a “Legal Expert” for its office in Beijing to fulfill a short-term contract from May 1st 2017 to June 29th 2018.

Responsibilities:

The Legal Expert will be reporting directly to the Director of the EU SME Centre and his/her responsibilities will include but are not limited to:

• Providing advice to European SMEs on the legal aspects of doing business in China.
• Managing relationships with a wide variety of beneficiaries and stakeholders and in particular to work effectively with representatives of SMEs, Chambers of Commerce, business associations, the private sector as well as Government official, specialised bodies alike.
• Managing international and national short-term consultants in a result-orientated way.
• Carrying out presentations and training to EU SMEs and other related stakeholders.
• Acting as an ambassador of the EU SME Centre, by representing the Centre at business and outreach events, writing media articles, and taking part in the Centre’s social media platforms.
• Supporting the EU SME Centre’s objective of making the Centre financially self-sustainable by promoting sales of EU SME Centre products and services.
• The Legal Expert may be required to undertake other appropriate duties as specified by the Director of the EU SME Centre from time to time in the interest of the smooth running of the EU SME Centre.
  
  

Requirements and Qualifications:

• Excellent understanding of China’s legal environment for business, particularly from the perspective of challenges faced by foreign companies investing in China and exporting to China;
• Ability to work independently and to analyse and report clearly on complex legal and regulatory issues;
• At least five years legal related working experience in China, in particularwith regard to Chinese company law, trade and customs law, commercial law, labour law, or taxation law;
• Able to write and edit reports in English;
• University graduate with academic degree in law;
• Passed Legal Practitioners course in either China or another country;
• Good communication skills, working language will be primarily English and Chinese;
• Ability to work effectively in an international team;
• Experience in providing legal advice to SMEs an asset;
• Proficiency (spoken and written) in another European language would be an advantage.

About the EU SME Centre

The EU SME Centre (the Centre) is a project funded by the European Union, with aim to help EU small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs) that prepare to do business in China by providing them with a range of information, advice, training and support services. Established in October 2010, the Centre has entered its second phase which will run until July 2018.

The Centre is implemented by a consortium of six partners - the China-Britain Business Council, the Benelux Chamber of Commerce, the China-Italy Chamber of Commerce, and the French Chamber of Commerce in China, the EUROCHAMBRES, and the European Union Chamber of Commerce in China.
